The Waikato Expressway and Hamilton ring road have been many years in the making. Martin Gallagher has been there for all of them (from his early community activism, as Deputy Mayor and Member of Parliament) advocating tirelessly to make these projects a reality.
Martin was an early protagonist for the ring road, in order to remove heavy trucks and traffic from local residential streets.
Traffic congestion is a significant issue in Hamilton and is getting worse. Long-term planning of our roading, rail and transport systems is essential. Martin has many years experience in working with land transport agencies and within Government. It is fundamental that Hamilton is well represented to ensure Hamilton receives sufficient funding to make the long term planning around transport that is required.
Martin is a strong supporter and advocate for a commuter rail service between Hamilton and Auckland.
